Microsoft Cloud App Security

Discover, control and protect data anywhere in your organisation

An increasing number of businesses are moving to cloud-based modern workplace solutions, benefiting from the increased flexibility, scalability, and cost-effectiveness provided by the cloud. This new way of working demands an updated security solution, which Microsoft has provided with Cloud App Security.

Cloud App Security provides rich visibility, control over data travel, and sophisticated analytics to identify and combat cyber threats across all cloud services used by a business, whether they are Microsoft or third-party cloud services. TiG are experienced in implementing Microsoft Cloud App Security for businesses as part of our Guardian Security package.

Cloud App Security gives users the power to:

  1. Discover and control the use of Shadow IT
  2. Protect sensitive information anywhere in the cloud
  3. Protect against cyber threats and anomalies
  4. Assess the compliance of business cloud apps

How does it work?

Once it has been configured for an organisation, Microsoft Cloud App Security will discover all apps that are in use within that environment. For each of these apps it will show traffic volumes across internal IP addresses and users, which administrators can then risk assess and take action on.

For each cloud-based app service that is discovered, the administrator will receive in-depth information such as use dates, hosting data centers, security configuration and policies, along with legal and compliance information. It will also give each app a trustworthiness score, giving the administrator a wide breadth of knowledge to base their decision on.

If an individual had to collect this information manually it could take weeks, whereas Cloud App Security is able to serve up the information almost instantaneously on a simple-to-use dashboard.

Data loss prevention

As well as giving information about the apps being accessed from within the environment, Microsoft Cloud App Security allows the administrator to set controls for data loss prevention.

Users can set controls on data uploads and downloads, as well as being informed about potential suspicious behaviour such as mass downloads by a single user, public sharing of confidential files, logins from impossible locations and many others.

Connect to non-Microsoft apps

Microsoft Cloud App Security can work across multiple apps that are not owned by Microsoft, increasing protection of the business environment. Other cloud service apps that can be connected include: AWS, Box, Dropbox, G Suite, Salesforce, Okta, Webex, and many others.
